Eintracht Frankfurt have pulled off a transfer coup by signing Raphael Onyedika from Club Brugge. The 25-year-old defensive midfielder joins for a fee of €9 million plus potential bonuses and has signed a contract until 2031.
Who’s in, who stays, and who’s out?
Alongside Onyedika, a two-time Belgian champion with 26 Nigeria caps, other squad decisions have been made. Elias Baum remains with the club, while Niels Nkounkou, Dina Ebimbe, and Arthur Theate are set to leave. Coach Adi Hütter is prioritizing continuity and defensive stability.
Why is Onyedika a major addition?
Sporting director Markus Krösche highlights Onyedika’s physicality, tactical intelligence, and remarkable consistency. With 268 senior appearances, including 24 in the Champions League, the Nigerian brings valuable international experience. His expiring contract at Brugge made the deal financially viable for Frankfurt.
What’s the current team status?
In the 1-0 friendly win over SV Waldhof Mannheim, Hütter showcased early tactical adjustments. Ritsu Doan impressed in midfield, but the attack still needs reinforcement. Goalkeeper Michael Zetterer made key saves, though the defense requires further strengthening. Preparation continues ahead of the DFB-Pokal match on August 21 against SC St. Tönis.
