Eintracht Frankfurt is keeping Oscar Højlund and will not let the 21‑year‑old midfield talent leave just yet - sporting director Markus Krösche stresses the Dane will stay for at least another season. The player, who arrived from FC Copenhagen in summer 2024 for about €1.3 million, has already made 24 Bundesliga appearances and started twelve times last season.
Krösche told reporters that Højlund has a long‑term contract and his physical development is a key reason to retain him. "He has worked intensively on his muscle mass in the last half‑year and is now much more stable," the sporting chief said. This physical step is especially important to handle the strain of games every three days.
Last season Højlund showed bursts of energy but also had periods lacking defensive solidity in midfield. Despite his dynamism, he sometimes struggled with the league’s rhythm. Nevertheless, he helped Frankfurt finish 8th in the Bundesliga - 44 points from 34 games (11W‑11D‑12L) with a recent form of DLLDL. The latest result was a 2‑2 draw against VfB Stuttgart on 16 May 2026.
While other young talents like Raphael Onyedika and Noel Aséko moved in the summer, Højlund now faces new competition for places. Frankfurt’s management does not want a potential million‑euro deal to weaken the squad. Instead, they continue to focus on his physical growth to turn him into a key player.
With 61 goals scored and 65 conceded this season, the goal difference sits at -4, and Frankfurt trails Bayern Munich by 45 points. Højlund’s progress could be decisive in pushing the team upward. Krösche emphasizes that he should stay a bit longer - a clear signal that the SGE will not rush to sell the young Dane.
