Eintracht Frankfurt sporting director Markus Krösche has admitted to communication errors regarding a real estate deal in Croatia. The 45-year-old admitted on Tuesday that he should have been more transparent with the club’s supervisory board about the purchase of a plot of land on a Croatian island. „Looking back, more openness - especially towards the supervisory board - would have been wiser. That was my mistake, and I would handle it differently today,“ Krösche told Kicker. The club currently sits 8th in the Bundesliga with 0 points.
What happened?
According to Krösche, he purchased the land after a tip from player agent Andy Bara. The price was market value, and the transaction was completed through the then-owner - not Bara’s wife, as initially reported. Part of the plot was green space that Krösche, as a foreigner, was not allowed to purchase directly. So Bara’s wife made the purchase and granted Krösche a right of first refusal. All documents are transparently available, he insisted.
Why it matters for Eintracht Frankfurt
The case raises questions about internal communication at the club. While Eintracht Frankfurt confirmed that Krösche still enjoys the supervisory board’s trust, the club admitted that informing the main committee in 2022 „would have been sensible and appropriate.“ The Bundesliga side stressed that Krösche had presented the facts „comprehensively, transparently and clearly“ and provided all relevant documents.
No link to transfers
Krösche dismissed speculation about a conflict of interest. Since taking office in Frankfurt in 2021, he has overseen three player signings and the appointment of former coach Albert Riera via Bara. Currently, Eintracht Frankfurt has no players under contract with Bara’s agency, and no transfer is in the works. „To seriously infer a conflict of interest from all this is not comprehensible to me,“ Krösche said. He also criticized Riera’s subsequent comments about the club as „unnecessary and unacceptable.“
Eintracht Frankfurt’s Bundesliga standing
With 0 points after the opening matchday of the 2026/27 season, Eintracht Frankfurt sit 8th. Their next home game is on February 20, 2027 against RB Leipzig, the current third-placed side.
