Leeds United are poised to sign Michael Zetterer from Eintracht Frankfurt. The 31-year-old is set to become the backup goalkeeper, following the summer departures of Illan Meslier and Karl Darlow who left on free transfers. Zetterer joined Eintracht Frankfurt in August 2024 and made 22 Bundesliga appearances while keeping six clean sheets during his single season. He also started five Champions League games for the German club. Seb Stafford-Bloor said: "Zetterer is a stable, highly experienced goalkeeper." He was signed as deputy to precocious Brazilian Kaua Santos, who lost his starting position. Zetterer overcame serious hand and wrist injuries early at Werder Bremen that cost him almost two years of football. After recovery he became Werder's first choice and had successful loan spells abroad. He is technically good with his feet, quick off his line, and has fine reflexes. Zetterer represented Germany at under-20 and under-21 level but never the senior national team. Alex Cairns remains as another option in Leeds' goalkeeping department. The transfer is not yet finalized as Leeds completed the club-record signing of England international James Trafford earlier in this window. Eintracht Frankfurt finished the 2025/26 season in eighth place with 44 points from 34 games (11W-11D-12L). They scored 61 and conceded 65, a goal difference of minus four. They sit 45 points behind champions Bayern München. Their last match on 16 May 2026 ended in a 2:2 draw with VfB Stuttgart. Recent form shows 0 wins, 2 draws and 3 losses (DDLLL).
