Markus Krösche will remain as sporting director of Eintracht Frankfurt. His contract runs until the summer of 2028, as reported this week by FAZ Sport, following earlier talks with Italian top club AC Milan.
The decision to stay comes during a period of sporting realignment. Eintracht finished last season in eighth place. Currently, after one match, the club sits in eighth position in the Bundesliga table with one point. Their record shows one draw, with three goals scored and three conceded. In the standings, they are two points behind leaders Bayern Munich.
What does the squad look like after the transfer summer?
The work of Markus Krösche in the past transfer window was marked by significant changes. The club recorded a considerable transfer surplus. At the same time, the total market value of the squad dropped by about a quarter. This development reflects a period of transition. The team's defence is considered inexperienced, while the central midfield and goalkeeper are seen as stronger areas. An overview of the current team is available on our Squad page.
Why is the financial situation so critical?
The economic pressure in German professional football is immense. According to estimates by FAZ, 17 or even 14 of the 18 Bundesliga clubs must earn more from transfers than they spend. A sustainable transfer surplus is therefore vital for the survival of many clubs. For Eintracht Frankfurt, the current financial position provides a solid foundation to continue their sporting path. The detailed statistical development of the team can be tracked on our Stats page.
What does Krösche's stay mean for the future?
Markus Krösche enjoys an excellent reputation within the football industry. His past decision to part ways with manager Adi Hütter ahead of time shows he is not afraid to make tough personnel calls. The contract now running until 2028 provides planning security. It is, however, a peace for a limited time, dependent on future sporting results. The next immediate challenge is on 6 September. Then, Eintracht Frankfurt will host currently fourth-placed FC Augsburg at Deutsche Bank Park. The full schedule can be found on our Fixtures page.
