Eintracht Frankfurt’s Former Player Stays at Napoli
The planned transfer of Jesper Lindström to Schalke 04 has collapsed for now. The Dane, who played for Eintracht Frankfurt from 2021 to 2023 and won the Europa League with the team in 2022, was supposed to move on loan from SSC Napoli to the Royal Blues. However, the negotiations were broken off because Napoli did not honor verbal agreements. Lindström will remain in Italy for the time being.
What happened?
According to „Bild“, the transfer was almost complete. Lindström was already in Germany to undergo a medical check. However, SSC Napoli dragged out the negotiations and eventually canceled them. The 26-year-old Dane had little success after leaving Eintracht Frankfurt, struggling at Napoli, Everton, and most recently at VfL Wolfsburg. For now, he remains at SSC Napoli.
Why is this important for Eintracht Frankfurt?
Lindström’s career shows how difficult it can be for players to maintain success after a major achievement like the 2022 Europa League title with Eintracht Frankfurt. The Dane was a key player at the time, but he has since struggled with poor form. For Eintracht Frankfurt, this serves as a reminder of the successful period when they achieved European success with players like Lindström.
What’s next?
Eintracht Frankfurt starts the new season in 8th place in the Bundesliga (44 points, 11 wins, 11 draws, 12 losses). The team scored 61 goals and conceded 65 last season. Their next opponent is SC Paderborn 07 on November 7, 2026. Whether Lindström will eventually move to Schalke 04 remains uncertain.
